Lead Photographer / Director – Ed Chiu

Formally trained in Fine Art Photography for 3 years before getting accepted into Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) Film School in 1999.  Added to the accolades are several award-winning stage productions and getting my work exhibited in New York, Cannes and London before the age of 21.  After shooting commercial and fashion across Australia and Europe for 25 years, I decided to challenge myself on a whole new world of sports photography, usually photographers start off with more accessible sport such as Footy or Swimming (in fact Footy is harder to shoot than fencing photography — big oval, many players, one ball = chaos), but I threw myself into fencing photography which is still very niche.

Photography is no longer just about pressing the shutter, I also specialise in content development, digital strategy, ecommerce, branding and digital asset management (metadata, rights management, copyright and workflow).  I am also a consultant who help business see the value of their digital assets in content marketing, but staying ahead of the trend and constantly upskilling are my strength.   Other times I’m a mentor for University of Melbourne alumni since 2016 – the empowerment aspect is also visible throughout my platform at Touchpoint.

Trustable content requires professional photography. No photos = No content.

See you at the next fencing comp!

Assistant Photographer – Katsuki Yamanaka

Hey, I’m Katsuki. I have been taking photography lessons from Ed since my summer break in 2024, but prior to that I assisted Ed on a couple of fencing comps (listed below). It’s been great shooting with a professional camera using fully manual settings, since then Ed has taught me the basic techniques such as the triads of lighting, composition, and most importantly storytelling through the lens using concepts such as perspective, lighting and introduction to cinematography. My biggest accomplishment so far has been shooting the 2025 Pride Cup at Fencing Victoria, I shot the entire event myself with Ed’s direction and advice throughout the day. I look forward to shooting more events for the Australian fencing community.
