On the 29th June 2025, Fencing Victoria hosted our second annual Fencing Victoria Pride Cup. This year saw 9 teams of 4 compete through poules and exhaustive DEs for the official Pride Cup trophy.
The day began with an incredible education session from our Pride Cup (the organisation) educator Rudy (they/them). Fencers learnt the importance of inclusive sport, as something that makes our teams stronger for everyone not just those who identify under the LGBTQIA+ banner.
We were visited by Game On from the Pride Centre’s Joy 94.9, who interviewed a wide range of our competitors.
I am so so proud to run these events, as I believe they represent the true heart of our community which is good and kind. Thank you to every single fencer, beginner, intermediate or senior, and to every spectator and supporter for showing up in such numbers. See you next year!

This year, the photographs were shot by Fencing Sport Photography’s Assistant Photographer Katsuki so that I could concentrate on video content of the event and also fencing. (Breaking the myth that men cannot multi-task.)

My creative brief ‘Celebrating People Coming Together to Fence‘, the focus is slightly different to other comps from photography perspective. While I was supplying Kat with art direction throughout the event, I also allowed him to interpret using his own lens, so to speak. He used methods and techniques that I have taught him in the last 8 months during our photography sessions in Melbourne.
